Lookout towers in the Euroregion Nisa – 3rd part

The overview of the most interesting lookout towers in the Euroregion Nisa – in Germany, 1st part.

AM SCHWEREN BERG

One part of this lookout tower is an info center that informs the visitors about the local brown coal mine. The lookout tower was constructed in 2008, it is 30 metres high and there are 4 terraces. From them, you may see the strip mine Nochten, city Weiswasser and panorama of Jizera mountains and Krkonose. The cyclists may use the trail prepared for them – it starts next to the lookout tower and it ends in the boulder park Nochten. In the park, they may admire more than 6000 boulders that arrived Scandinavia during the last Ice Age.
 

CZORNEBOH

The oldest lookout tower in the Upper Lusatia was built in 1851. The name of the lookout tower and of the hill come from the name of the Slavic god of bad forces. In 1928, the new wooden superstructure was added to the lookout tower. The reconstruction was made because the trees became higher than the lookout tower. Unfortunately, this superstructure burnt down few years later. The lookout tower is 23 metres high and there are 90 steps. It offers the view to the Upper Lustia. Near by the lookout tower, there are some famous places such as Devil´s Window or Devil´s Hoof.
 

FELIXSEE BOHSDORF

This lookout tower has wooden and steel construction. It is situated next to lake Felixsee and in the middle of the geopark Muskauer Faltenbogens. It was opened in 2004 as a lookout tower with three terraces. On the highest terrace (there are 160 steps leading to it), the visitors will discover the history of the geopark, and the history and nature of the Upper Lusatia. You may easily reach the lookout tower on bike.
 

GUSSEISERNER TURM

This 28 metres high, filigree lookout tower was built on wish of the citizens of the city Lobau. This lookout tower is until today the only cast-iron lookout tower in Europe. Next to the octagonal lookout tower, there is a restaurant. This dominant feature of the city Lobeau is 24 metres high and it has 3 terraces with 120 steps. Its total weight is 70 000 kg. The visitors may feast their eyes on Upper Lusatia, the Krkonose and the Jizera mountains.
 

HAGENWERDER

This lookout tower is very unique, because it is a mining digger from the local mines. The digger no. 1452 is a rare technical memorial and in was used in the mine Berzdorf. It is 75 metres long and 33,5 metres high. The terrace is placed 20 metres above the ground. This terrace offers the view on Upper Lusatina, Lower Silesia and lake of Berzdorf. Near by the lookout tower – the digger, there is the nature trail concerning the local mining history.
