The new tour at Špilberk Castle

The Museum of the city Brno prepared a special holiday tour with a guide´s explanation, that will show to visitors the newly reconstructed south wing as well as formerly closed parts of the castle.

The visitors will discover the well preserved remains of the castle that were discovered in 20th and 21st century, but also the remains from the period when the castle was used as military quarter of German wehrmacht.

During the tour, you will meet for example the Gothic portal in the first floor, the prismatic tower in the east wing, the Royal chapel with stained-glass windows  - the work of prof. Stanislav Libensky, the Renaissance rooms with portraits of Habsbourgs and so on.

In the 40s of the 20th century, a big reconstruction of the caste took its place. The reconstruction was necessary because of the residence of German army at the castle. The new tour will lead you through the newly constructed washrooms.

In the wine bar, you may taste some local wines.

The tour ends in the Baroque chapel of the Blessed Trinity from the end of the 17th century. The reconstruction of the chapel took its place during the residence of the German army – they make the chapel the new Nazi „Hall of Fame“ – so called Feierreum. 

During the whole tour, you may watch historical photos and compare the castle before and now.

July: 21st, 25th, 28th
August: 7th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 25th, 31st
September: 10th, 13th, 17th, 28th
The tours start at 6:60 pm
The lenght of the tour: 90 – 120 min
Capacity: max 25 people
