Lookout towers in the Euroregion Nisa – 2nd Part

The overview of the most interesting lookout towers in the Euroregion Nisa – in the Czech Republic, 2nd part.

RAŠOVKA

Rasovka is one of the new Czech stone lookout tower – it was opened in 2006. The sightseeing tower of the lookout tower is connected to the restarurant Rasovka. The former restaurant was here until 1962, when it burnt down. The name of the lookout tower comes from the word „sprout“, because in spring, the visitors may see the snow melting and the beginning of the blooming on the surrounding hills. The lookout tower is 19,5 metres high and there are 61 steps. The visitors will see Bezdez, the Central Bohemian Uplands and the Krkonose.
 

SMRK

The former lookout tower was built by the citizens of Nove Mesto under Smrk, but it was replaced in 2003 by a new one. Nowadays, there is a touristic chalet where the tourist may hide in case of bad weather conditions. The lookout tower is situated on border of three lands: Czech, the Lower Silesia and the Upper Lusatia. Tourists coming up to the lookout tower will see 150 km remoted mountains such as the Krkonose, the Lusatia mountains, the Jizera mountains, Poland and Saxony.
 

ŠTĚPÁNKA

The oldest lookout tower of Jizera mountains is situated at the hill Hvezda (Star). The construction of the lookout tower in altitude of 959 metres took nearly 50 years, so it is also the lookout tower with the longest period of construction. The tower is octagonal, 24 metres high and there are 81 steps. It offers the view on the Krkonose, the Lusatia mountains and the Central Bohemian Uplands.
 

TANVALDSKÝ ŠPIČÁK

At the top of the hill Tanvaldsky Spicak, in altitude of 831 metres, there was a vantage point from 19th century. In 1909, the new stone lookout tower was opened and it was called after the emperor Franz Joseph I. This more than hundred years old lookout tower is 18 metres high and the terrace is situated in 14 metres above the ground. There are 69 steps and you may see the Jested rack, the Cerna Studna rack, Krkonose and the Jizera mountains. You may travel to the top of Tanvaldsky spicak by the four seat funicular from Jiretin under Bukova.
 

U BOROVICE

The interesting fact about this lookout tower is that all the stones used during its construction come from former historical monuments in its surroundings. The lookout tower was constructed in 2009, it is situated in altitude 669 metres, it is 18 metres high and there are 70 steps. The visitors will have the possibility to admire the Jizera mountains, the Krkonose, the Orlicke mountains and the valley of rivers Jizera and Kamenice. Tourist should also pay attention to the church of the Holy Trinity in the village Roprachtice.
