Discovering glass in the Liberec Region – 1st part

1st part of the series about the glass from Liberec.

How is the glass made

Near from the city Novy Bor, in the village Lindava, there is a glass factory Ajeto. The factory products mostly the artistic glass that is exhibited all around the world. Some famous designers are connected to this glass factory, let´s mention for example Petr Novotny and Borek Sipek. The glass factory Ajeto offers the possibility of excursion, when the visitors will discover the glass making processes and they will have the possibility to try the creation of the glass as well. While having a break, they may watch a glassmaker working. There is also the Museum Ajeto, where the visitors will admire the most beautiful pieces coming from the glass factory or buy some souvenirs.

The beauty of crystal

Near by the castle Bezdez, in Bela pod Bezdezem, there is a Czech glass factory founded by Frantisek Tom in 1931. This glass factory focuses on products made from lead crystal. During your visit of this glass factory, you will see the metallurgical hall, the grinding room and the painting room. The glass makers will show you the traditional way of producing the crystal. In this glass factory, you may become a glass maker for a moment and try to produce your own piece of glass.

The Christmas atmosphere

The village Ponikla is famous by the creation of pearles. The pearles are made here from the first half of 19th century. Formerly, they were used as parts of jewellery. The company Rautis, that creates these pearles, offers the possibility of visiting the factory and seeing the traditional way of making pearles. The employees will help you while creating your very own pearles in the creative workshop.

The colorful tradition

The city Zelezny Brod has very long tradition in making glass and jewellery. The company Lampglas s.r.o. contiues in this tradition. During the exhibition, you will see the traditional ways of making jewellery, pearles and small figures. In the company shop, you may chose from more than 600 kinds of pearles and other equipment needed for the creation of your own jewellery.
