In the Czech Republic, there is an obligation for companies with more than 25 employees to employ handicapped people as well. The exact minimal numbers of the employed handicapped people are fixed by law. This obligation often brings some benefits to companies: they gain the qualified and loyal workers.
The other benefits form companies may be for example the reduction of the fiscal base or avoiding the financial fine 60 000 CZK per every lacking handicapped person under the given limit. The non-financial benefit is for example gaining of the status of the Socialy Responsible Company.
The handicapped people in the Czech Republic are divided into four groups according to the degree of their disability. It is necessary to tear down the ideas of the companies that handicapped people are only the ones on wheel chairs.
Before the beginning of the work contract with a handicapped person, the employers usually do some measures. They may for example prepare the future co-workers to the fact that they will cooperate with a handicapped person. Sometimes it is necessary to adjust the working spaces – for example by the construction of a ramp or by installation special light bulbs.
The companies may also chose not to employ the given number of handicapped people and buy instead of that goods or services producted by companies whose employes are mainly handicapped people. These companies are ordinary marked by the protection label Práce postižených (The Work of Handicapped).
