Czech waterfalls

Krkonoše is the main center of the waterfalls in the Czech republic. Unfortunetly, the majority of them isn´t accessible because of the Nature reservations and Nature protection areas. Waterfalls in Krkonoše are the highest in our country, let´s mention for example: Pančavský (148 metres), Horní Úpský waterfall (129 metres), Pudlavský (122 metres) and Dvorský (68 metres). Except from Krkonoše, the waterfalls could be found in the other parts of the Czech republic as well.

The Waterfall of Pančava

It is the highes cascade waterfall in the Czech republic, it falls from the meadow of Pančava to Pit of Labe. Its total inclination is 45 degrees. It is located in Špindlerův Mlýn. In average, there are 25 litres per second that pass throught it. Its name comes from the German word „pantschen“ – that means to splash. It isnt´t possible to go straight to the waterfall, because it is located in the area I of the KRNAP (the National Nature Park of Krkonoše). You can have a partiel view from the view of Ambrož. If you want to see the whole waterfall, you can follow the blue turistic line leading through the Pit of Labe.
 

The Waterfall of Horní Úpa

It is the highest located waterfall in the Czech republic, its height is 129 metres. It is situated 400 metres under the spring of the river Úpa. You can observe it from the distance of 1 kilometer from the blue touristic line in Giant Pit on the mountain Sněžka – from Kovárna (the blacksmith´s shop) to the former Giants-hut. This waterfall is exceptionel by its height, but on the other side, there is just a small amount of wather passing through it.
 

The Waterfall of Pudlava

It is situated in the area III. of the KRNAP, so it is accessible to the waste public, but be awared of the demanding terrain of the tourist line. This waterfall is 122 metres high, but only one part of it (37 metres) has an inclination of 45 degrees – so it looks like a „real“ waterfall. The other parts has the 25 degrees inclination. The flow rate is 50 litres per second. The main waterfall is created by two shoulders, that join under the waterfall again.
 

The Waterfall of Labe

The waterfall of Labe is the most massive waterfall, it is 35 metres high. The hikers can observe it from the view bridge above it. The bridge has the security banisters. You can go to the waterfall by the blue line from the Špindlerův Mlýn, but only in Summer. In winter, the waterfall transformates into an attractive ice-fall, what is accessible on cross-country ski on the red line from Dvoračky or on the ridges from Vosecká or Martinova hutt.

The Waterfalls of Mumlava

It is situated next to the city of Harrachov on the river Mumlava, at the edge of the Pit of Mumlava. It emerged in the big crack, that intersects the granite massif. It is one of the most beautiful and massive whaterfalls in the Czech republic. It is 8 metres high and 15 metres wide. Near the waterfall, you can find the Mumvala hutt. Few years ago, it served as a cabin, but today it is a touristic restauration. The touristic lines are accessible during the whole year for pedestrians and cyclists.
 

The Waterfalls of st. Wolfgang

It is located on the river Menší Vltavice, near the city of Vyšší Brod, more precisely 1,5 km from the Monastery of Vyšebrod. It is named after st. Wolfgang, who was the arcibishop in Regensburg in 10th century. The flow rate is 280 litres per second, but the best view on it is after a big rain or during the spring melting. You can visit the waterfalls by following the yellow line passing through Vyšší Brod, Vyklestilky and Loučovice.
