Midnight Masses in Prague

The Midnight Mass is a christian church service that happens in the early evening of a significant feast - in this time it is the early evening of the Nativity of Jesus. It used to be a tradition, that people prepared themselves to an important feast by vigilance, fast na prayers. The oldest notice concerning this tradition comes from the 5th century.

The overview of some interesting places where you may participate on Midnight Masses during Christmas 2013 in Prague.

Cathedral of st. Vitus, Venceslas and Adalbert in Prague

Cathedral of st. Vitus, Venceslas and Adalbert is probably the most famous and the most significant  cathedral in the Czech Republic. Every visit of this temple (whose history started in the 11th century) is a great experience and the Christmas atmosphere during the midnight mass simply multiplies this experience. After the Midnight Mass, you may make a short tour around this cathedral and rediscover the beauty of the past centuries.

The construction of the New-Gothic church was finished in 1892 by builder J. Mocker. The consecration of the church took its place one year later. Nowadays, it is one of the most significant dominant features of Vinohrady in Prague.

Church of st. Salvator

The parish at the church of st. Salvator focuses from 1990 on students, teachers and workers at universities in Prague. Nevertheless, everyone is very welcome in this church.

Church of Our Lady before Tyn

The Churuch of Our Lady before Tyn is without any doubt a very significant church building at the right board of Vltava in Prague. It is a spectacular building with rich, mostly Gothic decoration.

Basilica of st. Peter and Paul at Vysehrad
Stulcova, Prague 2 – Vysehrad

The first church at the place of the current basilica was constructed in the mid-11th century. Next to the basilica, there is one of the most famous and significant cementeries in the Czech Republic. At this cemetery, there are many graves of Czech famous and important personalities.
