The nature trail By the Brook Botic

Length: 6,5 km, number of stops: 13, time needed: 3 – 4 hours, focus: history and natural science

This nature trail leads from Hostivar by the brook Botic and Pitkovicky brook. It ends next to the Pitkovicky hillside. Its area was colonized from the ancient times and affected by the homestead. In the hallstatt period, there was a settlement and in 9th century, the new Slavic settlement was built at the same place.

The human influence is demonstrated by the construction of the Reservoir Hostivar and the foundation of the forest park Hostivar that serves to people living all around it as a green place.

You will find there two protected areas with the rests of the former nature:

THE NATURE MEMORIAL PITKOVICKY HILLSIDE
At the Pitkovicky hillside, there are very precious steppe ecosystems – the thermophilic association. The most interesting is the period of blooming – spring and the beginning of summer.

THE NATURE MEMORIAL MEANDER OF BOTIC
It is the part of the nature trail from the chateau in Prace to the dam of the Reservoir Hostivar. The wetland is situated there as well – it arose in Petrovice at the place where the Botic flows into the Reservoir. Next to the wetland, there live many kinds of birds.

From the historical memorials, you may visit for example the reconstructed Toulcuv court, where is situated the Ecocenter of the capital city Prague. The Ecocenter offers divers programs for schools and other interested people. In Petrovice, you may visit the church of st. Jacob where you may admire the remains of the mural paintings from 15th century.
