The Prague Castle – useful information

Basic information about the Prague Castle, its opening hours and information about the touristic seasons.

Because of the Summit, that is being held at the Prague Castle, some of the parts of the castle will be temporarily closed to public according to the following timetable:
 

• 21st - 25th April 2014 (from Monday to Friday) - the southern gardens will be closed to public
   
• 22nd + 23rd April 2014 (Tuesday +  Wednesday) - the Vladislav Hall will be closed to public
   
• 24th April 2014 (Thursday) - The Vladislav Hall, the exhibition The Story of the Prague Castle, the chapel of st. Cross, the Picture Gallery, the infocenter at the IInd couryard and the tower of cathedral will be closed.
  THE PASSAGES FROM TO THE PRAGUE CASTLE FROM THE HRADCANY SQUARE WILL BE CLOSED AS WELL. You may enter the area of the Prague Castle by the Powder bridge or via street Na Opysi.
   
• 25th April 2014 (Friday) - the Vladislav hall, the infocenter at the IInd courtyard, the chapel of st. Cross and the Picture Gallery will be closed.

Because of these changes, the Prague Castle changed prices of the tickets to the Castle (only in the period from 22nd April to 25th April 2014):
 

• Circuit A: full price: 290 CZK, reduced price: 145 CZK, family ticket: 580 CZK.
  
• Circuit B: full price: 190 CZK, reduced price: 95 CZK, family ticket: 380 CZK.

The ticket bought at those prices will be valid only for 2 days after the date of purchase. You may buy them in the infocenter at the IIIrd courtyard.

The Prague Casltle was founded by the Premyslid dynasty, more precisely by the prince Borivoj, around the year 880. It isn´t only a very important symbol of the Czech State, but also a cultural memorial and an object of the world cultural and natural heritage, the UNESCO. The Prague Castle is the largest castle complex in the world (its surface is 7 000 metres square), so it is written down in the Guinness World Records.
In the complex, there are many palaces and church objects constructed in different architectural styles – You may find there Romanesque and Gothic buildings as well as the reconstruction made during the First Czechoslovak Republic under the lead of the architect Josip Plečnik.
 

OPENING HOURS
The area of the Prague Castle is opened daily:
1st April – 31st October: 5am – midnight
1st November – 31st March: 6am – 11pm

The touristic objects are opened daily except from 24th December (that doesn´t include the Cathedral)
1st April – 31st November: 9am – 5pm
1st November – 31st March: 9am – 4pm
 

THE OBJECTS OF THE PRAGUE CASTLE
The Old Royal Palace with Vladislav Hall, the Permanent exhibition The Story of the Prague Castle, Basicila of st. George, the Treasury of St. Vitus Cathedral, The Prague Castle Picture Gallery, the Powder Tower with Castle guard exhibition, the Golden Line with Daliborka Tower, the South Tower of St. Vitus Cathedral and st. Wenceslas vineyard.
 

THE CHANGING OF THE GUARDS
The changing of the guards at the given posts:
Summer touristic season: every hour from 7am to 8pm
Winter touristic season: every hour from 7am to 6pm

The Ceremonial changing of the guards with fanfares and changing of the flag: at noon at the 1st courtyard.
 

OPENING HOURS OF THE GARDENS:
The gardens of the Prague Castle are opened in the summer touristic season: from 1st April to 31st October.
 

SUMMER TOURISTIC SEASON (1st April – 31st October)

• The Area of the Prague Castle: 5am – midnight
   
• The touristic objects of the Prague Castle: 9am  - 5pm
   
• St. Vitus Cathedral: 9am – 5pm (the last entry possible at 4:40pm), on Sundays from noon. It is not possible to visit Cathedral during the church ceremonies.
   
• The exhibition the Treasure of St. Vitus Cathedral: 10am – 6pm
   
• The Great South Tower of st. Vitus Cathedral: 10am – 6pm
   
• The exhibition halls: 10am – 6pm
   

WINTER TOURISTIC SEASON (1st November – 31st March)

• The Area of the Prague Castle: 6am – 11pm
   
• The touristic objects of the Prague Castle: 9am – 4pm
   
• St. Vitus Cathedral: 9am – 4pm (the last entry possible at 3:40pm), on Sundays from noon. It is not possible to visit Cathedral during the church ceremonies.
   
• The exhibition the Treasure of st. Vitus Cathedral: 10am – 4pm
   
• The Great South Tower of st. Vitus Cathedral: 10am – 4pm
   
• Gardens of the Prague Castle: in the winter touristic season, the gardens are closed to public.
