The Prague Towers – The Association of the Travel Agencies of the Czech republic (ACK ČR) for the travel agencies

12th February 2013, there was a meeting of the deputies of the travel agencies in the spaces of the Old Town Bridge Tower, that is under the administration of the Museum of the Capital City Prague. The guests were welcomed by PhDr. Jolana Kopřiva Myslivcová, the chairperson of the section of the historical monuments of the ACK ČR and PhDr. Zuzana Strnadová, the director of the Museum of the Capital City Prague.

At the occasion of the third anniversary of the section of the historical monuments of the ACK ČR, the Museum of the Capital City Prague invited the members of the ACK ČR to the Old Town Bridge Tower, that is (with other Prague Towers) under its administration from 21st January 2013. The chairpeson of the section, PhDr. Jolana Kopřiva Myslivcová reminded at the beginning, that Prague is also called the City of hundred of towers – but only a little part is opened to tourists. Under the administration of the Museum are Prague Towers: both Bridge Towers, The Powder Tower, the Bell Tower of st. Nicolas, The Lookout Tower at Petrin and the Mirror House at the same place. The Mirror House or the Labyrinth is the replica of the Gate „Spicka“ on Vysehrad – so it should be a part of the fortification of the city as well.

The director of the Museum of the Capital City Prague, PhDr. Zuzana Strnadová introduced the intentions of revival of the Tower tours by the exhibitions, because the Museum has in its depositories many of the suitable exhibits. Its specialisation will be waste – for the foreign and Czech tourists. And also for families with children and youth. For example, at the Lookout Tower at Petrin, there will be an exhibition called „The Towers from Mercury“. In the Powder Tower, the visitors will meet the history of the fortification of Prague and in the Bridge Tower of Mala Strana, there will be an exposition focusing on bridges.

The custodians and the workers at the box offices speak foreign languages, the opening hours you can find at the website www.muzeumprahy.cz – Visit us – Prague Towers. If a goup of people is interested in a later visit, it is possible to order it – the night view totaly worths it!

Every birthday celebration brings with it a present and a refreshement. And both of that ACK ČR received. We saw at our own eyes, that it is possible to organise an adequate catering for smaller events in a gothic room at the second floor (without lift, of course).

After the visit of the Old Town Bridge Tower, we went across the Charles´s Bridge, not to the Bridge Tower of Mala Strana – that is closed nowadays, but to the Bell Tower of the st. Nicolas. This Bell Tower served long time as a house for the night watcher and as a guardroom of the city, but during the totalitarian regime, it was closd for it served to the STB (The National Security Services) as a spy-tower. Near to this tower, the tourist can visit the Gallery of Pilsner Urquell, that is connected to the representative spaces of the Pilsner Urquel with the factory shop, where you can examine for free the interactive exhibition, buy souvenirs and drink a world-wide known beverage – and also use the toilet, that isn´t availble at the towers.
