The Night of Churches 2013

The Night of Churches 2013 will take place on 24th May in different places connected to the church in the Czech republic. Its main goal is to show to the public the beauty of the christian art, but also to offer them the possibility of meeting people that desire to share their faith. Except from the cultural experience, the Night of Churches offers divers religious services, for example prayers.

The Night of Churches is a project that wants to introduce the church and the faith to the vast public in a natural way. The organizers want to speak with the visitors, not to persuade them forcefuly. They will try to create the agreeable environment for meeting other people, for spectacles and many other experiences. In some churches, the visitors will see the usually inaccessible places. All the entries to the churches and to the cultural events are for free.

The organizers hope that the Night of Churches won´t be an one-time event. They want that this event makes people come to churches more often, because they liked their experience during the Night of Churches.

All the objects (churches) connected to the project participate voluntarily and prepare their own program – for example commended excursions, different kinds of creative workshops or cultural shows. The Night of Churches is co-ordinated by bishoprics.

This year´s news is for example the release of the pairs with all the churches and prayer rooms connected to the project. The visitors will have at disposal the magnets with the logo of the Night of Churches as well. Worth mentioning is also the application iKostel („iChurch“) that is accessible for all the owners of smart phones. This application brings information about the project the Night of Churches as well as about the individual churches. The printed materials presenting the information about the particular places or with the program will be prepared as well.

The project happens under the patronage of Mons. Dominik cardinal Duka, the arcibishop of Prague, RNDr. Petr Necas, the Czech Prime Minister as well as of the majority of the regional council presidents and city mayors.
